“There are a few interesting projects to commemorate the centenary (of Indian cinema). We are planning to open a museum of Indian cinema. The museum will be in Mumbai, in the heritage building of Gulshan Mahal. It will be be ready before May 2013,” Soni said here.

She spoke on the sidelines of the 59th National Film Awards ceremony at the Vigyan Bhawan here.

“In the last 100 years, we have witnessed the vibrancy of Indian cinema — from biographies, romantic films, commercial cinema to art,” she added.

The museum will serve as a window to film aficionados will be a storehouse of information, artefacts, equipments like cameras, editing and recording machines, projectors, costumes, photographs and other material.

The properties, dresses, sets, tapes, vintage equipment, posters, copies of important films, prints, promotional leaflets, developing equipment books, biographies, sound tracks, trailers, transparencies, cinema magazines and statistics covering film distribution are also expected to be displayed in a chronological manner, according to the official Films Division website.

Soni also announced that the National Film Awards ceremony will be held May 3 every year now onwards to commemorate the release date of the first Indian movie “Raja Harishchandra”.

The silent Dadasaheb Phalke-made movie was released May 3, 1913.

Arjun is expected to make an appearance at the forthcoming 65th Cannes International Film Festival as the ambassador of liquor brand Chivas, the official partner of the event. He is likely to be accompanied by his designer friend Rohit Bal.

The actor had recently expressed a desire to showcase his upcoming film “Heroine” at the Cannes Film Festival.

“I would love to be (a part of Cannes festival). That is a film that deserves to be there. If ‘Heroine’ can be showcased there, it will be great,” said Arjun.

Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Bhandarkar, the film has Kareena Kapoor and Arjun in the lead roles. Randeep Hooda and Shahana Goswami will also be seen in pivotal roles.

“Heroine” was announced with Aishwarya at the festival last year. But she opted out of the film due to her pregnancy. The director had to replace her with Kareena Kapoor.

However, to keep the red carpet tradition alive, Aishwarya is most likely to grace the French film festival again this time. She has been attending the festival since 2002 as the global face of L’Oreal.

Like Aishwarya, actress Mallika Sherawat has been a regular at the Cannes red carpet, but whether she will attend the gala this year or not is still a mystery.

Bipasha may also attend the festival to promote her debut international movie “Singularity”. Based on the first Anglo-Maratha war of 18th century colonial India, this romantic movie also marks the Hollywood debut of actor Abhay Deol.

This is not the first time that Bipasha would be attending the festival.

In 2007, she walked the red carpet to promote her film “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal”, along with her co-star and her then boyfriend John Abraham.

The film “3″ is the maiden directorial venture of Aishwarya, daughter of Tamil movie icon Rajinikanth. Interestingly the film about three stages in the protagonists’ lives begins with a funeral shot, but the identity of the dead person is not clear initially.

The following scenes gradually reveal that it is misery struck Janani’s (Shruti) husband Ram (Dhanush) who is dead.

The stories continues with Janani’s memories opening up.

Ram, a class 12th student, falls in love with Janani whom he meets on the road. Janani hails from a middle-class family and they are going through a financial crunch, while Ram is the son of a successful businessman.

Janani tries to avoid Ram, given her family background and natural reaction of a teenage girl. Ram, however, follows her undeterred and finally wins her love. This flashback constitutes phase one of the movie.

Janani disregards her parents’ wishes and their dream of settling in the US after her college education to be with Ram. Gradually their parents accept their love and the two get married. Ram’s father buys a posh apartment for the young couple to live in. This is phase two.

After marriage, it is revealed that Ram suffers from bi-polar disorder. Ram’s friend Senthil (Sunder) finds out about his mental illness.

The doctor says that because of his illness Ram could be dangerous at times. So the friend decides to protect Janani from his unexpected emotional upheaval. They hide it from her. Senthil tries hard to cure his friend, while Janani struggles to cope up with Ram’s inexplicable behaviour. This is stage three of their lives.

What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

The first half is full of romance in scenes where Ram follows Janani, their midnight’s adventure romance on terrace, meetings at each other’s home in the absence of parents.

But there are many scenes that don’t go down well. For instance, a school girl going to bed with full makeup is not convincing. There are many such scenes, but they do not reduce the charm of the movie’s first half.

Excellent cinematography, Anirudh’s youthful background scores, Dhanush and Shruti’s chemistry and Aishwarya’s dialogues carry the movie forward.

The drama and emotion that ensues at Janani’s home after her parents oppose her relationship with Ram are beautifully portrayed.

But the movie falls flat in the second half.

It is an unwritten rule in Tamil cinema that if lovers are united before the interval, then in the later part either one of them dies or suffers from some disease. “Vazhve Mayam” and “Varanam Ayiram” are some of the examples.

Aishwarys’s “3″ is no exception. The hero suffers from a disease, but no valid explanation is given for that.

Hiding Ram’s illness from Janani is justified, but one wonders why Senthil didn’t approach Ram’s father who would’ve arranged for his treatment.

Post-interval, the movie never gets a chance to rise.

Dhanush and Shruti have performed well, both in romantic and emotional scenes. But their efforts have gone futile as audiences refuse to tolerate the same drama that they have already seen umpteen times.

Shruti looks beautiful. Dhanush was not playing a mentally disturbed person for the first time in “3″, and his acting has matured a lot.

Rohini has performed well. Sundar’s performance as Dhanush’s friend shows refinement.

More than Anirudh’s massive hit “Why this Kolvaeri”, “Kannazhaga” pleases our ears more.

The picturisation of the song “Kolaveri”, which went viral on the internet when released in November last year, doesn’t match up to its popularity.

Background music sounds good. Velraj’s cinematography has added a glow to the movie.

The director has attempted to show “3″ phases of life. Because of the pitfalls in the third phase, the movie falls apart.

Neither a joyous love story nor a serious movie, “3″ actually stands in between.

A tale of a man-eating leopard set in the jungles of north India, the 86-minute movie will be released by PVR cinemas.

“The Forest” has been premiered at Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose in February 2009 and it was also show at the Cannes Market in 2009.

The writer-director won an an Oscar nomination in 2004 for “Little Terrorist”. He also became the first Indian to be nominated at the European Film Academy for the 15-minute short film that traces the journey of a young Pakistani boy who accidentally crosses the border between India and Pakistan in pursuit of his cricket ball and is instantly branded a terrorist by security forces.

“Little Terrorist” has been part of official selections to over 130 film festivals including the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) Los Angels.

Ashvin, son of well-known designer Ritu Kumar, started his filmmaking journey with “Road to Ladakh” that had Irrfan Khan and Koel Purie in it. He also made “Dazed in Doon” and “Inshallah Kashmir: Living Terror”.

His documentary “Inshallah Football”, about a Kashmiri boys dreams to play football and how his father’s past jeopardises his dreams, won the National Award for best film on social issues.
