New shows on TV in New Year
As many as 16 television shows — a mixed bag of reality shows, daily soaps and some new concepts as well — will hit the tube in 2014. Here's looking at them:
Aur Pyar Ho Gaya (January) The show, set in Jaipur, revolves around Avni (Kaanchi Singh), a hopeless romantic, and Raj (Mishkat Varma).
India's Got Talent (January) Season five of the show has retained Karan Johar, Malaika Arora Khan and Kirron Kher as the judges. It features unique talent across the country.
Bhoot Bhaage Dum Dabaake (January) The horror-comedy is a story of two brothers, who accidentally and unknowingly solve ghostbuster cases.
Ishq Kills (January end or early February) The non-fiction show will air one story per episode. It will explore the dark side of relationships and what happens when love goes wrong. The makers were apparently in talks with Bipasha Basu, but she found it too unconventional.
Daag (February) The show, featuring Sanjeeda Sheikh and Vatsal Seth, is apparently inspired by Bollywood hit Khoon Bhari Maang. Sanjeeda will avenge Vatsal and his family, who cheat her.
Waapsi (February) The show is a love story with army as its backdrop. The show features Gulki Joshi as the protagonist.
Airlines (February) The show based on aviation theme will feature Tulip Joshi. It will be a modern-age love story.
Badi Door Se Aayi Hai (February) It's a comedy show on extra-terrestrials. An alien family sets out on a hunt for their son, who lands up on Earth as a result of an experiment gone wrong.
Satyamev Jayate (February) The chat show, hosted by Aamir Khan, will be back with its second season. It will highlight social issues, but not the same ones that were discussed in the inaugural season.
Sunil Grover's show (February) They are tentatively calling it Sunil Grover's Show, but the concept is being closely guarded by the channel and the production house.
DID li'l masters (March) The third installment will feature Mithun Chakraborthy as the grand master and it will replace Dance India Dance 4.
Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi (March) Into its fifth season, the reality show will be hosted by Bollywood director Rohit Shetty. It was earlier hosted by actor Akshay Kumar. Shooting will begin in February.
Jaya Bachchan's yet to be titled (March) Jaya will play a single parent who manages the family. The show is apparently based on a Gujarati novel.
Ellis Bridge (April) The show with the backdrop of Gujarat is tentatively titled Ellis Bridge. It will be a musical love story with Heeba Nawab and Ankit Modgil as the lead couple.
Amitabh Bachchan's yet to be titled show (After April) The yet untitled show marks the debut of Amitabn Bachchan in the fiction space. This 20-episode series will feature him as Yudhisthir Sikarwar, a realty magnate and the storyline focuses on the politics of the corporate world.
Ashutosh Gowariker's yet to be titled show (June) The show will revolve around a girl's endeavour to achieve her ambition.
