Indian Idol Junior: Kids need to be corrected in a subtle way, says Shreya Ghoshal
In a first, Sony Entertainment Television's singing reality show Indian Idol has launched Indian Idol Junior, featuring children aged between five and 15. Hosted by Karan Wahi and Mandira Bedi, singer Shreya Ghoshal and music director-duo Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani make up the judging panel.
Says Shreya, "Just the idea of being surrounded with kids was tempting enough to accept the offer." What approach will she have since the show features kids? "The show is featuring kids for the first time. Viewers will have high hopes, so the talent has to be top-class. We can't sympathise with someone and be unjust to more talented kids. We will ensure that it showcases good music and great talent," she says.
Shekhar says he would treat the children like his own kids. "They may need to be corrected in a subtle way and nurtured properly."
How do they intend to make it a fun experience for both the audience and participants? Says Vishal, "We'll keep it fun by having fun. Also, as everyone knows, kids do say the damnedest things! So do Shreya, Shekhar and I! So I'm sure we'll have more than our moments of absolute pandemonium and laughter!
Sneha Rajani, Senior EVP and Business Head of the channel, says, "It's a successful format. The idea was to give the show a fresh perspective as well as discover newer talent horizons. Tomorrow's singing superstars is what Indian Idol Junior will showcase."
