A well-toned Munnabhai aka Sanjay Dutt has been doing the rounds of the gullies and nukkads of Bandra, Khar and Santacruz, campaigning for Samajwadi Party candidate Adv Rizwan Merchant. Says Sanjay Dutt when we managed to pin him down during a very hectic film schedule at Mehboob studios at Bandra. Sanju baba or baba, as everyone calls him on the sets, is engrossed in the action scenes for a project that also stars Kangana Ranaut. Baba is a bit worried about his concentration going kaput. But he still calls us to his van and talks about his camapign work. “I joined the Samajwadi Party because Amar Singh is like family to me. He has always stood by me through thick and thin.

Then again, the Samajwadi Party is the only really secular party in the country. I have known Rizwan Merchant for the last 18 years and he has always been at the forefront of social work – be it in terms of free legal help or any other such work. “Rizwan Merchant understands the problems of the area and the constituency he is representing, as he is very much part of this area. I think Rizwan Merchant is the right candidate for this constituency,” says Munnabhai in his characteristic style that has made him so famous and an icon among the young and old, adding that only Merchant can finish the work that his late father Sunil Dutt started. He elaborated that Merchant has spent over 15 years in active social work and he is a hands-on leader who leads from the front.

Sanjay Dutt after his speech was mobbed by about 500 fans who all wanted to be photographed alongside Munnabhai and Rizwan merchant. Dutt obliged all his fans patiently for almost an hour before returning to his shooting at Mehboob studio in Bandra.
