Maharashtra government has named Aamir Khan as the recipient of this year’s Raj Kapoor Memorial Award for special contribution to cinema. But will the superstar, known for shunning award functions, attend the ceremony?

Given the work he’s done in the last few years – directing, acting and producing films – Aamir is perhaps more deserving of awards than any other celebrity in the Hindi film industry presently. But the multi-talented star often skips most award functions because, in his opinion, they lack credibility.

However, Maharashtra government is hoping that Aamir makes an exception for the Maharashtra State Awards ceremony to be held in Pune on May 30.
The actor is to be honoured with Raj Kapoor Memorial Award for his special contribution to Hindi films.

According to a senior State Government official, Aamir has given his consent to the award but has conveyed that he has film shooting commitments for May 30 due to which he may not be able to attend the ceremony.

Bollywood diva Rekha is also to be given the Raj Kapoor Lifetime Achievement Award at the function.

“Rekha has assured us that she would be present at the awards night and we are keeping our fingers crossed that Aamir attends,” an official is quoted as saying.
