Swayamvar, Pati patni aur woh, Raaz pichhle janam ka! Imagine TV has always come up with innovative reality shows. In keeping with the trend, the channel today announced their latest innovative reality show Desi Girl.
8 Mumbai-bred, glamorous divas are transplanted into a real life village in Punjab, in the battle to be crowned the ultimate Desi girl. Not only will these divas have to adapt to village life but they will also have to compete with one another to win the hearts of the villagers. The villagers will ultimately decide which one of these city girls has it in her to be like them and win the title of Desi Girl.
The 8 glamorous faces are - Sambhavna Seth, Kashmera Shah, Roshni Chopra, Monica Bedi, Anmol Singh, Rucha Gujarati, Ishitta Arun and Aushima Sawhney.
The girls will stay with families from the village in their houses. In turn, each of the girls will undertake everyday tasks of the villagers such as milking cows, making cow dung cakes, cleaning the house, cooking food for the family and much more. The divas will need to prove the villagers that they are not just glamour and style but also have the ability to live and thrive in the ‘real’ India - that they have it in them to be a true Desi Girl.
Commenting on Imagine’s latest new show, Shailja Kejriwal – EVP Content, Imagine said, “This is the real deal! It's a show that takes you back to your roots, tapping into the traditions of rural life that exist even today! Desi Girl will put these girls in situations they would have never faced before. It will be a test of their inner strength, patience, drive to succeed and above all else their never say die attitude. It promises to provide hugely enjoyable moments for television audiences!”
The concept is co-produced by BBC Worldwide Productions India, marking their second innings with Imagine after Pati patni aur woh.
After Monica Bedi, the latest celebrity to join BBC's Desi Girl is Rucha Gujrati .
The actress was last seen in Zee TV's Waaris, produced by Smriti Irani. Rohit Roy is tipped to host the show. Desi Girl so far has names like Roshni Chopra ,Kashmera Shah and Monica Bedi on its list.
Rakhi Sawant , Payal Rohatgi and Sambhavna Seth were also approached but they all turned down the offer.
Our source informs, "Rucha has joined Desi Girl and they will be shooting in a remote village near Chandigarh. The show will apparently have 10 celebrity actresses. In all likelihood, Rohit will be hosting the show. The show will go on air sometime next month."
We texted Roy, who sounded clueless about the project and said, "What's that?" After we explained him the concept of the show, he reverted, "Not that I know of."
A production source smiles, "Rohit is hosting the show else why would he state in his account on a social networking site that he is off to Chandigarh for 40 days unless he is there to check the temperature."
We also contacted Gujrati who held a 'no comment' stance. Saul Nasse, BBC Worldwide Content and Productions India GM and Creative Head, too didn't revert to our text message.
