After going through a rough patch on the silver screen, lady luck favored Ronit Roy as far as small screen was concerned. He met with fame and success never seen before in the history of television. One after the other, serials that he worked in, were lapped up by the viewers. However lately, after 10 years of ruling the roost, his popularity has been challenged by Ram Kapoor, the new star of the small screen.
Ronit Roy has turned to big screen once again. He was recently seen in the critically acclaimed movie “Udaan”, and now has been signed by the international fame director, Deepa Mehta, for her movie “Midnight’s Children”. He essays the role of the father of midnight’s child and his character is named Ahmed Sinai. His other project is the movie “Shootout at Wadala” directed by Sanjay Gupta. The movie is based on the killing of the dreaded gangster, Manya Surve. Ronit plays the role of a cop called Raja Tambat.
Asked if it is curtains for the small screen, he replies that he has not quit the television scene, but only reduced his assignments. His only project on the small screen is the show, “Adaalat”, which consumes most of his time. Rumors were rife about his fall out with the television czarina Ekta Kapoor. Ronit Roy rubbishes the rumors saying that their association is still strong enough in spite of not working with each other.
