Indian television has been a hub of mythological series since the very beginning, Ramayana being the all the time favorite of every Indian has been re-launched for uncountable number of times. However, a new television series depicting the life journey of Lord Shiva and Sati was launched on a new Hindi drama channel Life OK on December 18, 2011 and since then it has become a favorite of every household in India, proof being its rising TRP rating with each passing week. Moreover, its telecast on the prime time at 8:00 pm on weekdays according to the Indian Standard Time (IST) adds a huge number to its viewer ship.
Presenting the story from the point of view of the female lead Sati, ‘Devon ke Dev… Mahadev’ has connected a cord with the viewers of all age groups. Written by the trio Mihit Bhutiya, Brji Mohan Pandey and Subrat Sinha, the show was initially titled as Sati for the popular Hindi channel Star Plus, but was later handed over to then newly launched channel with a changed name. With the perfectly compatible background music and use of technology to give the special effects, the show seems so real that viewers are deemed to surrender themselves in its divinity. Its star cast includes the popular faces of television with the central characters being represented by Mauni Roy (Sati), Mohit Raina (Lord Mahadev/Shiva), Sonarika Bhadoria (Parvati) and Saurabh Raj Jain (Lord Vishnu) among the other supporting cast. However, it is not the involvement of admired stars with the show that makes people glued to their TV screens to watch this show; the cords have been evidently connected with its religious association.
The six and half month old drama is currently showing the much awaited track where Lord Shiva is refusing to wake up from his meditation while Parvati, his wife, has been pleading him for the same and Kamdev trying to wake him up by shooting an arrow towards him which forces the most powerful Hindu God, Mahadev to open his third eye and burn Kamdev to ashes for trying to intrude in his meditation.
The show has been rated amongst the top 20 Indian television series on the basis of the comments of the fans stating their intension of watching the show being purely the desire to improve their lifestyle by following the “good” things from the show. With the claim that they only like those characters which impart some positive vibes regardless of the fact that whether the character is being played by a main lead or the supporting cast, the reviews by the viewers clearly depict the accomplishment of the creators in holding the essence of history without any glam addition in it. That’s what makes “Devon Ke Dev Mahadev” a much admired series among the Indian public!
