Though the Indian television industry has evolved over the year with respect to reality shows, talk shows, cookery shows, fiction shows; the saas-bahu sagas have always ruled the TRPs and even today they are on top of the charts. Here is a look at some of the shows which made a mark on the hearts of the viewers.
Saath Nibhana Saathiya created a new benchmark a couple of weeks ago when it crossed a TRP of 7. The show has been consistently on the top of the Star Plus channel well establishes the fact that a major percentage of Indian audiences still prefers saas-bahu sagas over other shows. While Diya Baati aur Hum stands apart for its unique story of Sandhya married to an uneducated yet responsible Sooraj and the love quotient between them.
Colors popular show Balika Vadhu, a first of its kind show that focused on child marriage and ostracizing of widows prevalent in rural areas. It became a smash hit among the masses with Anandi becoming sort of an icon for many viewers. Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is another drama about the pursuit of Akshara trying to balance the various relationships that bloom after marriage.
Newly launched show Ek Hazaaron Me Meri Behna Hai tells the story of two orphaned sisters, Jeevika and Maanvi, get separated when the elder one is married away. However the strong bond of love between the sisters is keeping the audiences hooked to the show.
Next comes Ekta Kapoor’s ambitious project Bade Achhe Lagte Hain struck the right chords with its unique storyline of undiscovered affection between 30-something happy-go-lucky Priya and 40-something busy entrepreneur Ram Kapoor.
Further shows like Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Mann Ki Awaaz… Pratigya, Sasuraal Genda Phool, Sasural Simar Ka and Pavitra Rishta ruled the TRPs in 2011 with their unique story lines. Let’s see who overtakes the other in 2012.
